‘I’m a bathroom expert here’s how to make your own mould-killing cleaner’
Using baking soda to remove mould from the bottom of a window
While most people are familiar with experiencing mould issues in the depth of winter, the end of summer can actually be responsible for some mould growth, according to an expert.
Warren Kinloch, bathroom expert from Bathroom Deal, has shared three effective ways to remove mould in the bathroom.
This included how Britons can make their own “cheap mould-killing cleaner” from household products.
The expert explained: “While most people are familiar with mould issues during colder months, the summer humidity can be equally responsible for mould growth in bathrooms.
“The main reason behind this phenomenon lies in the combination of moisture, heat, and poor ventilation.

“Bathrooms are often exposed to elevated humidity levels due to showers, baths, and general water usage.
“Inadequate ventilation allows moisture to linger, creating an ideal environment for mould spores to settle and proliferate.
“As a result, bathrooms become susceptible to mould infestations that can lead to health concerns and unsightly stains on walls, tiles, and grout. However, there are three key things you can do to reduce the risk of experiencing increased bathroom mould and dampness.”
Consistent cleaning and maintenance can help massively in preventing mould growth in the first place.

Use an effective bathroom cleaner with mould-fighting properties to scrub and disinfect the surfaces where mould tends to grow such as tiles and grout lines.
There are two household items which can be just as great and some people may already have them in their cupboards.
The expert said: “Using a teaspoon of baking soda and water in a spray bottle and spraying directly onto the mould will not only help to remove it but also assist in getting rid of any damp or musty smells mould often brings.
“To use white vinegar, spray it directly onto the mouldy area undiluted and leave for one to two hours before scrubbing away.

“This allows the vinegar to really soak, especially if you have porous surfaces like wood in your bathroom.
“For the ultimate black mould killer, combine baking soda, white vinegar, and water together to create a solution that’s much tougher and likely to kill stronger mould.
“Regularly inspect areas like corners, edges, and hidden spots, as mould often hides in hard-to-reach places. Promptly address any leaks or plumbing issues to prevent excess moisture buildup.”
Using products to prevent and get rid of mould will only work if the bathroom is properly ventilated in the first place.
Make sure the space has a fan which effectively draws out moist air during and after showers.
If the bathroom lacks a fan, consider installing one or opening windows to promote air circulation during and after showers.
The pro noted: “Running the fan or keeping the windows open for some time after using the bathroom helps to reduce humidity levels significantly and will reduce the risk of increasing mould and dampness.”
