Life Raft Treats is recalling its Not Fried Chicken and Life Is Peachy ice cream products, citing possible Listeria Monocytogenes contamination, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said.

The recall involves their Not Fried Chicken 64 oz bucket, Not Fried Chicken 2.5 oz bar UPC 8 60006 18210 6 and Life Is Peachy 6 count box ice cream products. All the affected products have BEST BY DATES up to and including AUG 8212024. These products were packaged in lamented buckets and plastic wrap.

The company started shipping the product on 8/21/2023 to distribution centers in GA, IL, MD, NC, NY, SC, and TX. Product was shipped through online directly to consumers located in all fifty states plus the District of Columbia.

The recall was initiated after the company on September 5 was notified by South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control or SCDHEC that their Not Fried Chicken ice cream treat tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. Life Is Peachy Ice Cream treats were also recalled as both products were manufactured in the same room.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Meanwhile, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

However, no illnesses have been reported so far related to the recalled products.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them, and either discard or return to the place of purchase for a full refund.

In recent recalls due to possible Listeria contamination, The Ice Cream House in late August called back all dairy ice cream products and non-dairy (parve) frozen dessert products.

In August itself, Twin City Foods, Inc. called back limited quantity of Not-Ready-To Eat Individually Quick Frozen Super Sweet Cut Corn and Mixed Vegetables in retail bags. New York-based Real Kosher Ice Cream also recalled soft serve on-the-go ice cream and sorbet cups for the same concern.
