APPLE has added a brand new iPhone feature that only works if you "touch" your handset with someone else's.<\/p>\n

It's called NameDrop and it's designed to let you quickly share contact details with another iPhone owner.<\/p>\n

What is NameDrop on iPhone?<\/h2>\n

NameDrop is a brand new feature that was added to the iPhone with September's iOS 17 update.<\/p>\n

It's a bit like AirDrop, but is specifically for quickly sharing your contact information with someone else.<\/p>\n

All you need to do is touch the top of your iPhone with someone else's to quickly swap info.<\/p>\n

How to use NameDrop on iPhone<\/h2>\n

NameDrop is switched on by default if you've installed iOS 17.<\/p>\n

It also needs to be installed on both devices \u2013 not just yours.<\/p>\n

To check if you've got it, go to Settings > General > Software Update.<\/p>\n

Now hold the top of your iPhone near the top of someone else's handset.<\/p>\n

A glow should emerge from the top of both devices to show that they're connecting.<\/p>\n

If you continue holding them together, NameDrop will appear on both screens.<\/p>\n

You'll then be able to choose Receive Only, or Share to do a full swap.<\/p>\n

If you want to cancel, just move the two phones apart before the NameDrop completes.<\/p>\n

Apple notes: "NameDrop only works for sending new contact information, not updating an existing contact."<\/p>\n

How to turn NameDrop off<\/h2>\n

It's possible to turn NameDrop off altogether on your device, although it's switched on by default.<\/p>\n

Just go into Settings > General > AirDrop.<\/p>\n

Now look under the section for Start Sharing By > Bringing Devices Together.<\/p>\n

Simply switch the toggle off to disable NameDrop on your device.<\/p>\n
