FITBIT users may notice something a bit different about the app next time they open it.

The Google-owned device has just rolled out a refresh to get more out of your fitness and health information.

A new "simplified" design has been introduced, broken down into three tabs.

These are Today, Coach and You.

But beyond a lick of paint there are some background refinements too.

Among them is improved communication with your phone's sensors and more accurate step counts.

So, you can now track a walk, run or hike without wearing your watch.

Instead, you can rely on the app alone on your iPhone or Android handset.

Google has also boosted the app's customisation, so you can choose your focus based on personal goals

The Coach tab is where you'll find workouts that you can filter by type, duration, equipment needed and even instructor.
