AMAZON is shutting down one of its free streaming apps.

The tech giant is yet to reveal when the service will disappear but bosses said the decision was not made "quickly or easily".

The Amp app was Amazon's live radio app, allowing people to create their own music shows.

Users could access millions of licensed tracks and put them into their own playlists to broadcast live on the app.

The service was only launched last year.

It's not clear why Amazon is pulling the plug, but lack of interest could be one of the reasons.

According to Google Play Store, it's only been downloaded more than 50,000 times.

Despite this, some big names appeared on shows, including Nicki Minaj and Jason Lee.

Amazon also cut the number of staff working on the project by half last year amid wider company cost-cutting measures.

For now, the platform remains up and running – and people can still download the app.

Fans of Amp have shared their disappointment on social media.

"Amazon getting rid of AMP??," one wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"Thats their best creation yet.. this is truly disappointing."

Another said: "Amazon getting rid of AMP? I’m sick dawg!"

A third added: "Getting rid of #Amp is a horrible mistake and start listening to the people … We don't want this."

Steve Boom, the vice president of Amazon Music, informed staff in memo, reports Bloomberg.

In it, he apparently said: "This decision was not made quickly or easily.

"It only became clear after months of careful consideration determining the investments Amazon wants to make for the future."

Spotify had a similar app, called Spotify Live, which also shut down earlier this year.

Looking for tips and hacks for your phone?
