IPHONE owners have been warned one of the new features on iOS could be the perfect trick for fraudsters.<\/p>\n

Live Voicemail reads out a transcript of the call in real-time, so you can decide whether to pick up or not.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

But thieves could abuse the tool to panic people into answering, an expert has told ABC7.<\/p>\n

Instead of going through to voicemail giving you time to think about whether it's a scam or not, alarming wording could appear on screen prompting you to take the call.<\/p>\n

A sense of urgency is one of the key tactics used by criminals.<\/p>\n

"Normally what happens when a scammer leaves a voicemail, you can look at the voicemail and decide over time is this a scam or is this real," Alex Quilici, chief executive of YouMail explained.<\/p>\n

"Now as the call's coming in, they're saying, 'Hey, we're about to transfer $2,000 out of your account, press one if this is an error otherwise, we'll let it go through.'<\/p>\n

"They create a sense of urgency as you are reading the transcribed message, which gets people to pick up, thinking it's their bank, when it's not."<\/p>\n

Live Voicemail is one of a number of big new features to arrive on iOS 17.<\/p>\n

It's switched on by default but you can turn it off if you would prefer.<\/p>\n

How to turn off Live Voicemail on iPhone<\/h2>\n

If you want to turn off Live Voicemail on iPhone, start by opening the Settings.<\/p>\n

Go to Phone, then tap on Live Voicemail.<\/p>\n

Toggle Live Voicemail to Off.<\/p>\n
