IPHONE owners suffering with a leaky battery have been encouraged to make three key changes to settings.

They take just a few minutes to tweak but can provide a major boost to all-important battery life.

Update software and apps

Apple regularly releases software updates that can include optimisations and improvements for battery life.

To make sure you're using the latest software, go to Settings > General > Software Update.

Then take a look at your apps.

"Go ahead and update all your applications and make sure your third party applications are up to date," tech expert and YouTube creator iDeviceHelp explained.

I'm an ex-Apple employee – updating your iPhone DOES cause 2 'noticeable' problems

"Believe it or not, sometimes these third party applications can overload the software, can overload the operating system, draining your battery a lot quicker.

"So, make sure you do those two things first."

Tweak 5G setting

Next, alter your 5G settings.

Settings > Mobile Service (Cell Data) > Mobile Data Options (Cell Data Options) > Voice & Data > turn off 5G Standalone.

Not all iPhones have this feature, as it is down to the network carrier to give customers the option to tweak this setting.

The feature essentially uses 5G for all mobile data activity, to improve FaceTime call quality and Safari search speeds while out and about.

But Apple warns this feature "may impact battery life".

Disable vibrations

Settings > Sound & Haptics > Haptics > select Never Play.

Haptic feedback is the tap or quick vibration you feel when interacting with different elements of your iPhone.

It's commonly used for ringtones, alerts and the keyboard.

"Now, Apple also mentions that if you disable the keyboard haptics… this could actually improve the battery life on your iPhone,"the expert behind iDeviceHelp added.

"Apple says turning on keyboard haptics may affect the battery life of your iPhone."

To turn off keyboard haptics, open Settings > Sound & Haptics > Keyboard Feedback > turn off Haptic toggle.
