AN EXPERT mechanic has revealed a little-known button that could restart your "dead" car.<\/p>\n

Scotty Kilmer took to his YouTube channel to explain the handy hack to his followers.<\/p>\n

Scotty, who has over five decades of experience in the motor industry, said: "A lot of cars, especially American cars, have a safety device.<\/p>\n

"If you get in an accident and hit something hard it turns the fuel pump off.<\/p>\n

"This is so…if you get in a wreck and there's a fire, it won't just keep pumping fuel on the fire."<\/p>\n

The device he referred to is called an inertia switch.<\/p>\n

All you have to do is locate the switch, which is often found in the boot or in the front footwell, and press the reset button.<\/p>\n

You can consult your owner's manual to see if your particular car has one and where it can be found.<\/p>\n

The device is usually composed of a black plastic casing with a large red button on top.<\/p>\n

Just push it down until you hear it click and the car should restart.<\/p>\n

If this doesn't solve the issue, it's best to call in a professional to diagnose the cause.<\/p>\n
