HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is urging couples who are married or in a civil partnership to spend \u201cjust 30 seconds\u201d to see if they can claim Marriage Allowance.<\/p>\n
Marriage Allowance can boost a couple\u2019s finances by up to \u00a3252 a year, and many are unaware they could be due it.<\/p>\n
By using HMRC\u2019s online Marriage Allowance calculator, couples can find out instantly if they are eligible.<\/p>\n
Angela MacDonald, HMRC\u2019s deputy chief executive and second permanent secretary, said: \u201cThe Marriage Allowance calculator helps couples to find out in seconds how much they stand to benefit.<\/p>\n

Marriage Allowance lets the lower earner transfer up to \u00a31,260 of their Personal Allowance to their husband, wife or civil partner.<\/p>\n This can reduce their tax by up to \u00a3252 annually. If eligible, HMRC says couples can also backdate their claim for the previous four tax years and receive a lump-sum payment worth more than \u00a31,000.<\/p>\n To benefit from the tax relief, one partner must have an income less than \u00a312,570 and the higher earning partner\u2019s income must be between \u00a312,571 and \u00a350,270 (\u00a343,662 in Scotland).<\/p>\n\n
